Roger Alan Valkenaar, 53, of Abilene passed away January 31, 2006.
Roger was born September 15, 1952 in Lubbock, Texas. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Abilene Kiwanis Club. In 1969, he was awarded the honor of Eagle Scout. He also sponsored Boy Scout Troop 206.
When he was a child, Roger had muscular dystrophy. He graduated from Cooper
High School and the received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from
McMurry University. He worked as a cattle owner and a financial investor.
Roger was a member of the Central Texas Gem and Mineral Society for many
years. He would always bring his cattle trailer to the club to help transport
equipment to the Civic Center for our spring show. Roger liked being part of
the rock club and had many friends at the club.
Roger purchased and donated the “geode cracker” equipment that we use in the
spring show. We always looked forward to seeing Roger at club meetings and at
the spring show; he was a very interesting person to talk to. He loved to talk
about rocks and minerals and visit with his friends. He will be missed by all
who knew him.
